Microsoft relaunches its operation to download free software for students.

To be able to apply you must have a student status and take courses in school you learn when you register.

The software "available" are:

  • Windows Server 2008
  • Expression Studio 3 / 2
  • Visual Studio 2008
  • Visual Studio 2010
  • SQL Server 2008
  • And much more!

All these software can be downloaded only if your student status has been verified and once you finish your studies licenses purchased are still used by cons it is possible to download new software.

Microsoft has until June 30, 2010 servers in the limit of 5000 virtual machines, each connected to a Windows Live ID and subject to the acceptance condition of use, they can attend pre-written scenarios on different products such as :

  • SharePoint
  • Configuring a server
  • Create a website in Joomla, Wordpress and other CMS
  • Development in collaborative mode with TFS (Team Foundation Server)

Some scenarios are not yet available but should arrive shortly, access to the server is done either through a connection Microsoft Terminal Server Client either directly with Visual Studio TFS.

Between the creation of your account and prepare the virtual machine it takes between 10 and 15 minutes.

Once you are finished ie the June 30, 2010, two choices open for you:

  • Retrieve the virtual machine
  • Migrating to an offer partner

TechDays 2010 Registration

The team blog for Microsoft Office provided some information about system requirements for running Microsoft Office 2010.

The computer running the 2007 version will have no problem to run the 2010 version because it requires exactly the same minimum requirements ie a processor clocked at 500 Mhz and 256 MB of RAM minimum.

On the side of the disk space required has been increased by 1 .5 GB but this will vary depending on your configuration it may be that this is less important.

The operating systems that are compatible are:

  • Windows 7
  • Windows Vista SP1
  • Windows XP SP3
  • Windows Server 2008
  • Windows Server 2003 R2

The 2003 version is not compatible with 64-bit version of Office 2010.

As announced this weekend, the arrival of the beta version of Office 2010 was coming soon, it is now after the announcement to the PDC (Professional Developer Conference) to download beta versions of Office 2010 is possible in version 32 or 64 bits with 6 languages to choose:
